If there’s one lesson from the recent Superbowl (other than you still need a pass rush in American football) it’s this:

Sex doesn’t sell any more… not as much. No, to be more exact:

As we watched the annual global hooplah, we saw plenty of males taking a mild interest as cheerleaders, GoDaddy types, and other gals wooed the screen for their attention.

But the members of Global Maledom stopped what they were doing — actually shut up in the middle of arguments about Brady and Manning and “cover 2″ and all that —

and gawked, practically stopped moving, as Catrinel Menghia strode down the pavement.

At the bar we were visiting in Geneva — packed, at about 3 a.m., for the game — it was like one of those old 1960s E.F. Hutton commercials. When Femdom stalks, males listen.

After a quasi-religious hush that lasted several seconds, the verbal genuflections started.

“Man, howdja like to be that guy?,” some American finally asked.

“I wish my wife would do that to me,” another mumbled as Menghia grabbed geeky-guy’s necktie and roughly seduced him….

Before leaving him grasping at air, groping for more.

Menghia thus surges to #1 on our proprietary Celebrity Dominatrix Power Rankings, replacing, ironically, Jennifer Lopez, whose ads for Fiat last fall helped spark the trend.

(Note that the Menghia ad has been airing for some weeks. This was wise. The males we saw reacted like well trained-dogs.)

A tip of the hat to Fiat — if their competitors don’t get it, they do, and will reap the benefits.

“Using measurements at 7 different points during Sundays game,” agency trackers, according to AutoBuid.com, “found that the Fiat section of their site had a 138 percent rise in activity at the end of the game,” i.e., had more than doubled… the largest increase of any major advertiser.

Here from the files of stuff we’ve been meaning to post is our little report on the (June 2010) 10th Anniversary celebration of Virgin….

Now, as we like to point out — see, e.g., Micheal Bay’s public foot worship submission to Megan Fox — the male celebrities acting out their submissive fetish like to act like it’s just “all in fun” —

and Branson was no exception.

For our money, however, this is more than a little a matter of a face-saving cover up for the fact that many of these fellas really are “happy” to serve as foot-worshippers, horses, and more to their superior female rulers.

(I.e., they’re happy, all right — but they’re more than happy.)

It’s probably no accident that, in some sense, various alpha males are leading the way (Charlie Sheen, LeBron James, and so on.)

These guys recognize their enslavement to their own sex drive… and their own longing to find their proper place… underneath.

Here’s to their heightened conciousness as the Age of the Disposable Male marches on.

She humiliated ex-hubby Marc Anthony in a mannter worthy of Cleopatra. She took American Idol, a dubious franchise, to new commercial heights. Her injection of female domination into the popular culture, from musical performances to those remarkable Fiat commercials, makes her a vanguard.

“I am a Goddess,” she proclaimed this fall… and that attitude is, in part, what makes the assertion true.

2. Cameron Diaz. Cameron was a close second, but took the coveted Delilah Award for her coy befuddling of Alex Rodriguez, starting with the Superbowl and extending through A-Rod-less’s sissyfication in a short-lived (for him and the Yankees) post-season.

3. Britney Spears. Britney’s Femme Fatale album completes a jujitsu from battered and bruised to femdom and dominant that we at once advocated, and predicted, back in 2008. (That’s Britney during her comeback, filming video for the release of Three.)

4. Mistress T. One of the steadiest and loveliest producers of fetish art ever. A role model and global femme fatale, she’s a joy to follow.

5. Angelina Jolie. The adopter mother director actress abassador impresses us most with the taming of Brad Pitt. Our celebrity dominatrix of the year in 2009, she’s nearly always somewhere in the Top 10.

6. Taylor Momsen dominatrix. It was an uneven year for TMom. But she struggled through like a true rocker, turned 18, and, well, we still just can’t get over those terrific gun-barrel high heels she likes to wear.

7. Sarah Palin. Like Hillary Clinton, Palin retains a strong appeal as a femdom figure, and like Hillary, seems to revel a bit in it. She doesn’t appear to have political ambitions in the 2012 U.S. race, but politics is only one way to wield power. Our surveys show she has a strong following among submissive males, which is to say, about 99 percent of them. We expect to hear from her in the future.

8. Nicki Minaj. On a night when most of the live performances were tepid at MTV’s Video Music Awards, Minaj’s video clip debut with Rihanna stood out (and stood on) their hapless male worshippers around the world.

9. Lexi Sindel. It’s a delight to hear she’s going to be spending more time in Washington, DC. Maybe she can whip things into shape; heaven knows, the place needs a strong female hand. And glove. And ball gag. And….

10. Catrinel Menghia. “That hot chick from the Fiat commercials” cracks into the toplist, just past Nicole Sherzinger and 2010 Woman of the Year Megan Fox, on the strength of a couple commercials and photo shoots. Hoping for follow-through in 2012.

Hence, Cameron Diaz’s casual flirtation with Alex Rodriguez over the last couple years — ending once again this fall in A-Rod’s casual dismissal and another sissyboy postseason — spurs real admiration from us…

(After being ennui-dumped by Cameron again, A-Rod — or as we like to call him, A-Rod-less — batted .111 in the 2011 postseason, with two singles and zero extra base hits in 23 plate apparances. For our readers who aren’t baseball-savvy, these are cuckold-at-the-bat hitting stats. You might say he had trouble getting past first base.)

There was some competition, but considering the above, not much. Jenn Sterger, whose 2008 sexting brought Brett Favre to his knees when discovered in 2010, spent a quiet 2011. 2009 Delilah winner Kim Kardashian brough down New Jersey Nets boytoy Kris Humphries — but, ehh, you know, he’s no Reggie Bush. (Hey Kimmy, how about Tim Tebow in 2012?)

Winning the Delilah Award is an important, and symbolic, achievement for Cameron. As a high school model, she told one interviewer she loved athletes, and had something of a “Delilah complex” for dating the strong guy.
