Britney Spears dominatrix: Toxic
The rise of femdom Britney Spears (see our last post on The Kiss) continued in 2004 with the release of Toxic —
In which Spears morfs from a demure stewardess cum bimbo; changes a nerd male into a hunk, before duping him out of his secret pass key; dons black leather to bike through the city on a cycle driven by a male in a kind of human-pony role; and finally obtains a dangerous poison from some sort of quasi-government or -corporate superagency…
Which Britney uses it to coldly dispatch her victim, turning the tables to pour the Toxic poison into the mouth of male-dom… before delivering a kiss of death and flying away, back to her flight where she will presumably work her wiles on more victims.
In between these plot-line segments, Spears appears repeatedly in a semi-naked white body suit, seducing the camera while clad only in see-through nylon and diamonds… truly a femme fatale’s best friend.
It’s worth noting that in the song’s literal lyrics, of course, Spears is calling her male partner “toxic.” But in the video, it’s sheer irony. Britney’s fem-power bring the male to eat his own… well, you know… poison…. and once again, the female manipulatrix is deadlier than the male sperminator.
Along the way, Toxic won Britney her first Grammy… and is widely recognized as one of the top dance songs of the decade. Princess Fatale, who knows a thing or two about domination of the male, has praised it as one of her favorite pieces of femme fatale art.
Think Britney’s just stumbled onto the whole dominatrix, femme fatale thing? Consider these two facts: 1. She’s named Toxic her favorite song and video (at least, as of a 2009 interview.) 2. She had to lobby record company executives to release the song as a single and produce the video.
Toxic, in other words, is all about fem power, in the person, of course, of Britney Spears.
In the clip, she effects transitions in the subservient males around her, and, as well, in herself.
